Individual Therapy Structure

Session 1: Initial Assessment (60 mins)
In your first individual therapy session, you will engage in a comprehensive assessment with your therapist. This session focuses on discussing your background, current challenges, and personal goals. It’s an opportunity for you to share your experiences and the reasons you are seeking therapy. The therapist will gather detailed information to understand your unique situation, which will serve as the foundation for the therapeutic process.

Session 2: Continued Assessment (60 mins)
During the second session, the assessment continues with a deeper exploration of your experiences, emotions, and thought patterns. This session helps the therapist gain further insight into your individual needs and establishes a clearer picture of your current situation. By the end of this session, you and your therapist will have a solid understanding of the key issues to address moving forward.

Sessions 3+: Goal-Oriented Therapy (45-50 mins each)
In the sessions following the initial assessment, the focus shifts to goal-oriented therapy. These sessions are designed to address the specific challenges identified during the assessment phase. You and your therapist will work together on implementing strategies, practicing new skills, and making progress toward your personal goals. The aim is to build on the insights gained earlier and work towards achieving meaningful and lasting change.

The frequency and duration of these goal-oriented sessions can be adjusted based on your needs and progress. Typically, sessions are scheduled on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
Couples Counselling
We will work collaboratively to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and enhance your relationship. We recommend seeking therapy when one or both partners feel their needs aren’t being met, when there’s a sense of being unheard or unseen, or when reaching common ground seems "impossible" despite your best efforts.
Our goal is not only to support the improvement of your relationship but also to assist in navigating its end if necessary. Whether you're facing a breakup, separation, or divorce, we provide support through all phases, helping you find clarity and closure.

Couples Therapy Structure
Session 1: Initial Assessment Meeting (90 mins)
In your first session, you and your partner will meet with the therapist together. This session is all about diving into the main issues in your relationship and understanding what’s causing you stress. Being open and honest helps the therapist get a clear picture and set the stage for effective support.
Sessions 2 & 3: One-on-One Time (60 mins each)
After your initial joint session, each of you will have one or two individual sessions. These private meetings give the therapist a deeper look into your personal experiences and needs. You’ll then bring these insights back into your couples sessions in a supportive and constructive way.
Sessions 4 and Beyond: Couples Therapy (60 mins)
As you move into the fourth session and beyond, you’ll focus on specific strategies to address the issues you've discussed. These sessions are all about practicing new skills, resolving ongoing challenges, and reinforcing positive changes. Here’s what you might work on:
-
Learning better communication skills and truly listening to each other without jumping to conclusions or starting arguments.
-
Gaining a deeper understanding of each other’s struggles, challenges, and fears.
-
Learning how to disagree constructively without damaging your relationship.
-
Improving intimacy, both sexual and non-sexual.
-
Building and restoring trust.
-
Navigating through issues of infidelity or betrayal.
-
Managing family dynamics and setting necessary boundaries.
-
Exploring personal boundaries and uncovering past histories that might influence your relationship.
-
Deciding if there’s enough of a relationship to nurture or if it’s time to part ways.
-
Mediation for a relationship that may be ending.
Throughout the counselling process, your therapist may use various techniques to support you both:
-
Analyzing Behavioural Patterns: Observing and discussing your behavioural patterns and communication styles to pinpoint areas for improvement.
-
Role Modelling: Demonstrating effective communication and problem-solving techniques to show positive behaviour and interactions.
-
Pointing Out Discrepancies: Highlighting any inconsistencies in behaviour and communication between you and your partner to bring attention to underlying issues.
-
Exploring Emotional Triggers: Identifying and addressing emotional triggers that contribute to conflict and distress.
-
Enhancing Communication Skills: Teaching and practicing strategies to improve how you express yourselves and listen to each other.
-
Setting Goals and Action Plans: Collaboratively setting realistic goals and creating action plans to address specific challenges and track progress.
Typically, couples meet monthly for about 4-6 sessions, with additional sessions scheduled as needed to continue your progress.
Note on Starting Therapy
**Starting couples therapy involves a commitment to complete the initial three sessions before diving into targeted interventions - you can't skip it! This approach is crucial for us to fully understand your situation and determine where changes are needed. We understand that waiting for visible changes can be challenging, especially when things might be in sore spot. However, completing these initial sessions is key to achieving meaningful improvements.
