Registered Counselling Therapists (RCTs) are Master’s or Doctoral-level clinicians trained specifically in counselling and psychotherapy. In Nova Scotia, RCTs are regulated by the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT).RCTs support people through psychotherapy and counselling, often referred to as talk therapy, to help them better understand and work through the thoughts, feelings, behaviours, relationships, and experiences that may be affecting their lives.Psychotherapy and counselling can look different for everyone. It may involve talking through what’s happening, developing practical coping strategies, exploring patterns and relationships, working through difficult experiences, or building the confidence and skills to move forward. As regulated professionals, RCTs are required to follow professional standards, ethical guidelines, and regulations designed to protect the people they work with. Confidentiality is an important part of counselling, so what you share with your therapist is kept private, with some specific exceptions required by law or to help keep someone safe.
